I've been working with a group of third graders to get a head start on an upcoming biography unit. After a couple weeks of exploring text features and taking notes, we've moved into the writing phase. In third grade, they refer to a "peanut butter and jelly" framework for well-structured paragraphs.
The students had a blast assembling pre-written sentences into a paragraph on Rosa's early adulthood.
Ingredients:
- bread (topic and concluding sentences)
- peanut butter (main ideas)
- jelly (details)
